JKY gets second place in Tamy’s association contest in…
Tamy’s has an annual association contest, where associations compete in different fields and winners get an operational grant. This year the theme “internationalization”, and JKY took the second place in the competition.
This past semester has been full of new international people and events! A new international and interdiciplinary master’s degree program Leadership for Change started this fall. Coordinating the tutoring of LFC-students has been on JKY’s agenda. In the beginning of the semester we organized a few get-togethers, one for the exchange students and one for the degree students in Leadership for Change and NORDIG. In October it was time for the already legendary international sitsit by JKY. Theme was Suomi100, because you can’t let Finland’s 100th birthday year go by without at least one sitsit celebrating it.
I have been tutoring master’s degree students from the LFC-program this semester and it has been a really positive surprise. These students really want to get to know Finnish student life! It has been great to see international students joining student associations Boomi, Staabi and Iltakoulu and their activities. I am super happy about my new international friends, and again, would recommend international tutoring for everyone. Even if you are an older student or already doing your master’s.
So it goes without saying that international affairs have been a big deal within our student association this year. The year is coming to its end and JKY will have a new board for the year 2018. In the future JKY will continue to work for international students and internationalization of our national students. One thing to work on in the future is taking care of the interests of the students of the LFC-program. Educational and international affairs are both important parts of JKY’s role, so why not combine those more.
